Unfunded Job Seeker Scholarships

Occasionally Desert Survivors meets a job seeker with a disability who will not qualify for the programs used to fund supported employment. We average about four unfunded applicants per year. These folks are excited to join our crews but do not have a way to pay for the staff presence they require to be successful. Your organization can sponsor a scholarship for a job seeker who is ready to work.

We have developed a scholarship program that will fund one year (250 workdays) of services for a current or future unfunded participant. The total amount is based on the State rate. This includes all necessary staff assistance and program supplies for one year of supported employment. They will earn at least minimum wage while working in a small crew, on-site, with staff support…just like any person receiving State-funded services. Cats of Desert Survivors

Help our hard-working kitties by donating to their maintenance fund. Desert Survivors practices trap and release, so all our feline friends are spayed and neutered. We take our commitment to our fluffy buddies seriously and currently any vet visits, medication, and food comes out of our operating budget. If you love having our animal protectors around as much as we do, consider donating for their care.

Project Consultant/Contributor

Are you a local community member with valuable experience to share? Desert Survivors is always planning projects to benefit our job seekers and retail customers. Occasionally we need the help of a consultant or a specialized tradesperson to make sure we are on the right track. If you would like to donate your time and have experience and credentials in one of the following fields, please contact the Executive Director.

In-Kind Wish List

We know that our desert community wants to support the important work we do with both plants and people. But we also know that this is a financially challenging time for many of our friends. Desert Survivors has compiled a wish list of in-kind donations as an alternative to donating cash. If you are considering donating an item that is not on the list, please call first.

End of Year Tax Donation

Another great way to support Desert Survivors is to make an end of the year tax credit donation. This enables a $400 individual or an $800 married couple donation to the qualifying non-profit of their choice. All donations are tax-deductible due to our 501(c)(3) charitable organization status, EIN# 860420538.

This donation is eligible for the Arizona Credit for Contributions to Qualifying Charitable Organizations. State tax credits are a dollar-for-dollar reduction in taxes already owned. This tax credit donation must be received by April 15th. To receive your state reimbursement, use Arizona Form 321 and add our QCO code 20414 (azdor.gov/forms/tax-credits-forms/credit-contributions-qualifying-charitable-organizations).

End of year Donation

Gift Certificate

Gift certificates are available in any size, can be used for up to a year from the date of purchase, and may be redeemed anytime (including during plant sales). 

Please send an email to mireya@desertsurvivors.org after purchase to let us know what address we can mail the gift certificate to, or if you want to pick it up at the nursery in person.
