Summer Update
School is out, snowbirds are gone, and summer is here! Desert Survivors is gearing up for a fun summer season, so we want to make sure you are in the loop. First, we will have a plant pop-up at the 4th Ave Food Conspiracy Co-op on Sunday June 14th, 7am to 11am. Stop by and grab yourself a little plant friend while you do your grocery shopping.
You may have noticed that bingo is making a comeback and we are all in. We are planning a summer of fun with numbers; there will be opportunities to win plants and DS swag, enjoy some cool AC, and have a laugh. Hint, there will probably also be beer available. If you know a business that would like to host a bingo night, please contact our Retail Manager Kay at kay@desertsurvivors.org.
There are some exciting events regarding the recognition of July as Disability Pride Month in Tucson and Southern Arizona and we want you to join in the celebrations. July is known as Disability Pride Month in recognition of the signing of the ADA in 1990. This year the City of Tucson Mayor and Council will read a proclamation declaring the month of July as Disability Pride Month. This will occur at the start of the June 23rd Mayor and council session, around 5:30pm in the council chambers of city hall. Consider showing your support by joining us in the public gallery. But wait, there’s more. The Pima County Board of Supervisors have also decided to recognize July as Disability Pride month, by reading a proclamation at the beginning of the July 14th Supervisors’ meeting beginning at 5pm.
Desert Survivors will join the party by hosting our own Disability Pride event at the nursery in July. Learn the meaning of the disability pride flag, serve looks and win plants in the Disability Pride Costume Contest, and enjoy some local disability focused vendors. Date and time TBD.
Finally, we will be having our one-day-only Monsoon Sale August 22nd, 8am to 4pm. If you have friends who haven’t joined or perhaps you have let your membership lapse, come shopping and get 10% off all purchases, in addition to tax free status. Maybe we will get lucky and it will rain.
